Posted by slang on December 26, 2008

Earlier Part 1 looks at whats are definitives stamps.

This article looks at what are commemoratives stamps:

  • Commemoratives stamps are issued to mark important events or anniversarie
  • Usually larger and more colorful than definitive stamps
  • The reasons for issuing such stamp(s) will be shown quite clearly in the design
  • Commemorative sets are often made up of between two and six stamps of different face values, although there are exceptions when just one or two values may be printed.
  • Besides printed as sheets of stamps, they are sometimes printed in blocks of sets, each surrounded by a margin, rather like a miniature sheet of stamps
  • Commemorative stamps are produced especially for philatelists
